About me

My name is Abedin Abedin, and I am a landscape photographer based in Kamloops, British Columbia with a deep passion for the outdoors. I grew up drawing and sketching, and had cameras not existed, I would likely have devoted my creative life to painting the landscapes that continue to captivate me. Fortunately, modern technology allows us to spend more time immersed in nature and less time in front of a canvas or computer, while still conveying our emotional connection to the land.

I first picked up a camera at the age of sixteen and began exploring this entirely new medium for expressing my vision and feelings about nature. At that time, only film cameras were available. A neighbour, aware of my passion for art and recently returned from travels through countries of the former Soviet Union, gifted me a Zenit-E film camera—one of the best available at the time—along with several rolls of black-and-white film. Having been born and raised in Eastern Europe, where access to modern technology was limited, receiving this camera was transformative. It ignited my passion for photography, and in particular for landscape photography, a passion that has continued to shape my creative journey ever since.

In 2011, I purchased my first full-frame DSLR camera, a significant step forward from working with film. Until then, I had been shooting with a Zenith, learning to anticipate light and exposure through experience rather than immediate feedback. The transition to digital freed me from the costs of film and development, but it also introduced a new set of challenges that reshaped my creative workflow. To fully realize the potential of RAW files, I immersed myself in digital post-processing—a process marked by a steep learning curve and moments of frustration, but one that ultimately proved invaluable.

While digital photography allows for greater precision and flexibility in the field, it does not necessarily translate into more time outdoors. The act of capturing an image is only part of the creative process. For me, a significant portion of the work takes place afterward, during post-processing. Drawing on my background in sketching and my attention to fine detail, I approach post-processing much like painting. I spend considerable time shaping each image, carefully refining the light, contrast, and depth. This deliberate process is central to my practice and is what gives my work its distinct look. Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to create images that immerse the viewer in the scene and evoke a strong sense of three-dimensional depth.
